Smooth, radiant and well-hydrated skin is something many of us strive for. To make this goal a reality, it’s worth adding a simple yet highly effective treatment to your skincare routine – body peeling. Regular exfoliation not only improves the appearance of the skin but also supports its regeneration and prepares it to better absorb the active ingredients found in cosmetics. Why else should you try body peeling, and how should it be done properly? Let’s take a closer look.

What is a body scrub?

Body peeling is a cosmetic treatment aimed at exfoliating the outer layer of the skin. It helps remove dead skin cells and impurities that accumulate on the surface. It’s the simplest way to regenerate, even out skin tone, and smooth the skin.

What are the benefits of a body scrub?

When done correctly, a scrub nourishes the skin, making it more hydrated and elastic. It also stimulates blood circulation and improves tissue oxygenation. It’s a great ally in the fight against cellulite. A peeling is also a perfect way to prepare the skin for further care products such as creams, lotions, or body butters.

How to choose the right product?

The scrub should be matched to your skin type. Coarse-grained scrubs, such as sugar scrubs, are relatively gentle and suitable for most skin types. Salt scrubs have stronger exfoliating properties and are recommended for less sensitive areas like thighs or buttocks. Coffee scrubs, thanks to the caffeine they contain, help reduce cellulite and swelling. For sensitive skin prone to irritation, use a gentle cream-based or enzymatic scrub.

How often should you exfoliate your body?

The frequency of use depends on your skin’s needs and the type of product. It’s also worth following the manufacturer's recommendations. Generally, scrubs with larger particles can be used 1–2 times a week.

How to perform a full-body scrub?

  1. Cleansing – Wash your skin with a gentle shower gel.

  2. Scrubbing – Apply the scrub to damp skin and massage in circular motions, starting from your feet and moving upwards. Stop if you notice any redness.

  3. Rinsing – Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Do not use additional cleansing products. If you plan to shave, now is the best time.

  4. Moisturizing – Apply a moisturizing cream or lotion. This soothes any irritation and helps active ingredients penetrate deeper into the skin.

Who should avoid body scrubs?

Main contraindications include skin allergies, purulent or inflamed acne lesions, wounds, and abrasions. Avoid using scrubs immediately after hair removal, tanning, or cosmetic laser treatments. In such cases, wait until your skin is fully healed to avoid irritation.
